I graduated from Hartford High School and received my Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith. I volunteer for many youth organizations which include baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football and Girl Scouts. Federal Programs Coordinator

I grew up in Michigan and came to AR to attend college in 1972 where I met my husband, Jim, who is from OK. We have three daughters/son-in-laws and 6 grandchildren. We both graduated from Harding University.
Before coming to Hartford, we lived in El Dorado where I taught for 8 years at both Jr. High Schools. I have been at Hartford Schools for 20 years. I started out as a Title I Math teacher and then added to that schedule the responsibility of teaching 7th and 8th grade Math. I then had an opportunity to be a Math Coach, Federal Coordinator, Title I Coordinator, ACSIP Coordinator and Elementary Test Coordinator. As you can see, I now wear many hats.
I love helping students and teachers with their math needs. I have enjoyed working with the administration and staff.

"Teachers who stop learning have students who stop learning." I truly believe this statement and that is why I currently have a master’s degree plus 15 additional graduate hours. I am a National Board Certified Teacher, a Mentor to both Novice Teachers and those seeking National Board Certification, and a Praxis III Assessor. Being a consultant for Everyday Math allows me to train teachers in other states. I have taught second grade for sixteen years, and one year I taught a second/third split. Teaching is extremely rewarding, and I strive to make learning as much FUN as I possibly can. Along with teaching, I enjoy reading, shopping for bargains, and spending time with my three daughters and two grandchildren. I collect souvenir pennies, Aladdin lamps, and sand. My husband and I are Hartford residents. I LOVE the area and appreciate the support of the local community, it residents, and parents.

Wendy James
Fifth Grade
|
|
My name is Wendy James. I am married to Brandon James of 14 ½ years and we have three terrific boys, Tyler (12), Brennan (10), and Jaden (7). In my spare time I enjoy playing with my boys, chasing their sports all over the place, reading (when I can), cooking with my husband and mowing the lawn.
I graduated college with my Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from Arkansas Tech University in Russellville in May, 2003. In August 2007, I moved my career to Hartford Public Schools, where I teach 5th grade Math, Science, and Social Studies. I absolutely love Hartford. We are so fortunate to have a district that allows teachers to teach. We learn through hands on activities, teacher instruction and guided practice, and independent investigations. Within the 5th grade, Mrs. Hawkins and I work together to ensure that all the standards are covered and that the children have fun learning it. We often times combine classes to allow for the students to work whole group through science labs, poetry reads, group presentations and also individual project presentations. We have fun learning; exactly the way learning is meant to be.

I have been with Hartford Schools for 23 years. I taught in Poteau Schools for 2 years. I graduated in 1980 from Wister High School. I graduated from Carl Albert Junior College in 1981 with my Associates. I then worked for Poteau Headstart and drove to Northeastern State College to receive my Bachelor's Degree in 1983 with 12 hrs. towards a Master's.
I live in Monroe, Ok with my son John Paul Wilson. He is an 8th grader and has gone to Hartford since Kindergarten. I also bring with me my grandkids Philip and Monica Rangel whom have both been here since Pre-School. One has gone 3yrs. and the other 5yrs. This year I also have my nephew Jaxon King going here who attended pre-school here previously. I have a daughter who has graduated from nursing school and works for Heavener Nursing Home, my son-in-law is employed by OK Foods.

Donna Woodhull
Sixth Grade
|
|
My name is Donna Woodhull and I am the sixth grade Language Arts (Reading, Writing, English, and Spelling) teacher. I have lived in Hartford my entire life. I graduated from Hartford High School in 1985. I then attended Arkansas Tech University where I received my K-6 Elementary degree. I was hired at Hartford in 1988-89 and have never worked at another school. This is HOME! You could say maroon and grey runs deep in me. I have since been working on my Reading -Specialist degree at Harding University. I truly love my job. I think when you are passionate about something it shows. It is my desire as a teacher to make a difference. I want to help every child that walks into my room not on grade level, to walk out at the end of the year with that accomplished. In addition to that, I have high expectations for every child to grow as a reader. In years past, I think reading teacher s have taught the skill to read not the love or will to read. That’s what I want to do. I want to help put that book in a child’s hand that they just can’t put down. If they ever start reading, then they will begin to improve in so many other areas. Writing (what I call the inking of their thinking) improves, vocabulary is strengthened, and grammar usage improves. So to me reading is the key to success!
